ABOUT
Our Long Goodbye is an exhibition of photos, films and creative writing about one mother and daughter’s journey with Alzheimer’s by Jenny Harris. The exhibition is touring to venues in the north of England throughout 2025. There are workshops and artist talks for anyone wanting to find out more about Our Long Goodbye and how it was created. Please see the events page for details.
In 2014 Jenny started working on a creative storytelling project called Storybox for people living with dementia and their carers. Whilst doing this work, Jenny’s mum started showing signs of dementia and her professional world and personal world collided. This work is the outcome of that experience.
Jenny had not used photography before but began taking photos during the pandemic as a way to connect to her mum who was in a care home. Without realising it, she suddenly had this visual archive of their relationship with dementia and each other.
Part of Jenny’s practice is developing new ways to talk about the disease, especially how to maintain relationships between carers and people living with it. This candid glimpse into her and her Mum’s experience hopes to open up conversations about dementia and how can we care for people living with it.
